What is the Employee Assistance Program?

The EAP is a confidential service that helps employees and members with personal problems. Sometimes these problems can interfere with your ability to be successful at work. We believe that having healthy, well-adjusted employees results in improved job performance and productivity.

Who can use the EAP?
The employee or any member of the employee’s household can use the Performance Plus services.

What kind of problems can I call the EAP about?
You can call the EAP about anything that is concerning you. People call about a great variety of problems. Some of the more common concerns include: relationships, emotional problems, life stressors, substance abuse issues and work-related problems.

What will the EAP cost me?
A set number of face-to-face visits per problem are provided at no cost to you through your employer’s contract with Performance Plus. Often these visits are all you will need. If you are referred for other services, there may be a cost. The Performance Plus staff will work with you to find the most affordable method to cover the cost of additional services.

Will my employer, family, or friends know I've used the EAP?
Performance Plus EAP is a confidential service. No information will be released without your written consent except in cases required by law, such as imminent danger to self or others. No one will know that you have utilized the EAP unless you decide to share it with them.

Is EAP mandatory?
Using the EAP is voluntary. It is your decision. However, when there are severe performance issues and an employee has entered into a discipline agreement, attending the EAP and following through with EAP recommendations may become a part of that agreement. Use of the EAP is not a substitute for progressive discipline. It can help improve performance by addressing personal issues that may be preventing employees from being their best at work.
